The UK-Ireland Planning Research Conference 2008 - Belfast, 18-20 March 2008 18-03-2008 Introduction From 18-20 March 2008 the annual Planning Research Conference will be held
for the first time in Northern Ireland, hosted by the School of Planning,
Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPACE), Queen’s University, Belfast. Like
previous Planning Research Conferences, this event will provide an opportunity
for leading national and international planning scholars to present and debate
current issues in planning research in a multidisciplinary and supportive
environment. The event will have a special theme of 'Sustainability, Space and
Social Justice'.
Description
The theme of 'Sustainability, Space and Social Justice' encompasses some of
the most acute current challenges to the field of planning:
While the three concepts of Sustainability, Space and Social Justice each
presents separate challenges for the field of planning, the ability to address
them in an integrated and coherent way is central to the very concept of
planning and is a challenge that runs deep in the history and ideology of the
discipline.
These important issues will provide a framework for the more general
discussions on the future of planning practice and research at the conference
and will particularly be addressed by the high profile speakers that will
address the plenary sessions of the conference.
This conference offers the chance to present and discuss research findings
and issues across the whole spectrum of spatial planning.
