European Mobility Week 2008: clean air for all - 16-22 September 2008 16-09-2008 Introduction The former European Commissioner for Environment Margot Wallström established
the Car Free Day as a European initiative in the year 2000. It serves as an
opportunity for participating cities to show how matters related to the
environment concern them. The establishment of this day served as inspiration
for the first edition of the European Mobility Week.
Description
The European Mobility Week (EMW) aims to influence mobility and urban
transport issues for the long-term as well as to improve health and quality of
life of European citizens. The EMW is organised each year from 16 to 22
September and will celebrate its seventh edition this year under the theme of
'clean air for all'. Participating local authorities organise a week of
activities promoting clean modes of transport, invite citizens and stakeholders
to express their visions on their urban transport system as well as organise a
car-free day on 22 September.
Programme
Every year, since 2002, the European Mobility Week, supported by the European
Commission, is organised from 16 to 22 September and is dedicated to sustainable
mobility. The European Mobility Week gives the opportunity to initiate a wide
range of activities and represents a platform for local authorities as well as
organisations and associations to:
