Forum des Villes - Montpellier, 2-3 December 2008
02-12-2008

Introduction
On the occasion of its presidency of the European Union, France has decided to stress the importance of “sustainability and solidarity in our cities”. Following the meeting of the ministers responsible for housing, cohesion and urban development, which will take place in Marseilles on 24, 25 and 26 November, 2008, it is organizing on 2 and 3 December, 2008, in Montpellier, a Cities Forum (Forum des villes) where several hundred European players in urban policy (elected representatives, experts, representatives of associations and professional organizations) will come together and discuss the operational implementation of the Leipzig Charter.
Description
Ten or so workshops will be offered: a first series will focus on the theme of the “city accessible to all” and address the issues of governance and citizen participation as a main thread ; a second session will present innovative tools and practices serving an integrated approach of urban development.
The Cities Forum will bring together several hundred European players in urban policy : elected representatives, experts, representatives of associations and professional organizations. Without overlooking the necessary adaptation to climate change, the Cities Forum will initiate a common reference and tool-building process for action towards sustainable European cities and their social cohesion.
