New Urban Audit in 2006 29-12-2005 In 2006, data will be gathered for the third Urban Audit. The number of
participating cities has now increased from 258 to more than 300. In the
Netherlands the number of member cities will rise from 10 to 15. Eurostat will
invite statisticians from all participating cities to attend an information day
in Brussels on 10 March 2006.
The selection of cities was prepared in close collaboration between the
Directorate-General for Regional Policy, Eurostat and the national statistical
institutes, based on a set of five simple rules. To ensure that large and
medium-sized cities are equally represented in the Urban Audit, in some of the
larger Member states not all large cities could be included.
The new Dutch member cities are Almere, Apeldoorn, Breda, Leeuwarden and
Nijmegen. They join existing participants Amsterdam, Arnhem, The Hague,
Eindhoven, Enschede, Groningen, Heerlen, Rotterdam, Tilburg and Utrecht.
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) will gather most of the data (an estimated 80%) of
the 292 variables. The cities will supply the remaining data under the
coordination of O+S, the city of Amsterdam’s statistical office.
The data-gathering exercise by the cities will in all probability have to
take place between March and July.
