FEANTSA: “End homelessness by 2010.” 23-02-2006 The European Federation of National Organisations Working with the Homeless
(FEANTSA) calls on all policy-makers to commit to ending homelessness by 2010.
FEANTSA urges all stakeholders to follow-through on the commitment of EU Social
Affairs Ministers to treat homelessness as a priority. The organisation wants it
to be a European objective to prevent homeless people from having to sleep rough
on the streets by 2010. FEANTSA will launch a campaign to this effect in all
European countries to convey a message to European leaders in the run up to the
spring summit.
The Dutch national government, together with the local authorities of the
Netherlands´ four major cities, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht,
recently embraced a plan with the same ambitions as FEANTSA´s. Both the Dutch
central government and the cities are to contribute financial resources. To
execute the Dutch plans, an annual budget of 175 million euros is needed up to
2009.
