Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC) reveals vision for the future
16-05-2006

On 11 May the ASC announced its strategy and key priorities at a stakeholders event in Leeds. They proposed to put skills and knowledge at the heart of sustainable communities. This strategy underpins the ASC’s commitment to working with other stakeholders to implement renewed education and training programmes for young people, professionals and communities.
Gill Taylor, chief executive of the ASC, stated: “The ASC’s work will span the public private, community and voluntary sectors as we aim to establish a co-ordinated approach to sustainable communities skills, knowledge and information exchange”.
Examples of future ASC activities are:
  • developing curriculum content for pupils at secondary schools across the UK;
  • commissioning cross occupational learning and generic skills materials for a wide range of sustainable communities professions;
  • developing learning programmes for local communities to enable them to engage more effectively in the sustainable community process.
