DG Environment - Urban issues now under ‘Clean air & Transport’
30-05-2006

The European Commission Directorate General Environment has changed its internal composition. The changes follow the appointment of Peter Carl as the new Director of DG Environment in 2005. The changes include the transfer of responsibilities previously held by the unit on 'Urban and Health' (in charge of the Thematic Strategy on the Urban Environment and the Environment Action Plan), to other units. The changes were made effective 19 April 2006.
The health aspects, such as the Environment and Health Action Plan, have been transferred to unit 'B3. Biotechnology, Pesticides & Health' headed by Herve Martin. Urban issues - including the Thematic Strategy on the Urban Environment - are now handled by Unit 'C3. Clean Air & Transport' headed by Marianne Klingbeil. Another new Unit of interest is 'C5. Energy & Environment', headed by Matti Vainio.
