MEPs want more money for training and cities 08-05-2006 The members of the Regional Development Committee of the EP want more
Structural Funds for training projects and urban areas. This is their main point
of advice on the draft guidelines on the use of the Structural Funds for the
period 2007-2013 proposed by the Commission.
The call for more funding for urban areas has been expressed before by
members of the EP. The Commission has already stated that it will take this
advice into consideration when writing the final version of the guidelines on
the Structural Funds.
MEPs also feel that the Structural Funds should focus more on lifelong
learning projects. Meaning both the support for improving infrastructure and
support for improving qualifications. The EP is counting on life long learning
to be regarded as an investment in people and therefore not as aid that requires
notification.
The guidelines on the use of the Structural Funds will only be adopted after
the official adoption of the new Structural Fund Regulations.
