Vote for “Best Mayor of the World”
08-06-2006

City Mayors, the international project for good and strong local government, has nominated 50 mayors to compete for the title “World Mayor 2006”. Mayors are judged on their vision, their passion and their skills. You are invited to vote for who you believe should be awarded the title World Mayor 2006.
The World Mayor competition, which is conducted on the internet, takes place over two stages. The competition starts with the nomination stage. This stage closed on 31 May 2006. Based on the input received during the nomination stage, City Mayors has drawn up a short list of 50 finalists who will compete for the 2006 award. All finalists are asked to submit a manifesto, describing their visions for their cities.
You may vote for one mayor from each of the world's regions - Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Australasia and Europe. In addition, you are asked to comment on your vote. The choice of the winner will be based on the number of votes mayors receive and the persuasiveness and passion of supporting comments.
The award will be presented at the annual World Mayor event. The contest seeks to raise the profile of mayors worldwide, as well as to honour those who have served their communities well and who have made contributions to the well-being of cities nationally and internationally. Last year’s event was won by Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyannis.
