EC publishes decisions on regions and Structural Funds

On 6 September the European Commission has published decisions on identifying regions eligible for Structural Funds and the allocation of funds for the 2007-2013 period. Total Structural funds for this period add up to 308 billion euros.

On identifying regions, the Commission has taken five decisions and came up with five lists of eligible regions:

A list of eligible regions under the convergence objective
A list of regions eligible on a transitional and specific basis under the regional competitiveness and employment objective
A list of member states eligible for funding from the Cohesion Fund
Indicative allocation by member states of the commitment appropriations for the Convergence objective
Indicative allocation by member states of the commitment appropriations for the Regional competitiveness and employment objective

The allocation of funds is not given by region, but by Member State, since it is the national governments that will further allocate the fund in their national operational programmes.
