EESC prize for organised civil society 13-09-2006 The first prize, worth 10,000 euros was awarded to the European Physical
Society. A second prize was awarded jointly to the European Civic Forum and a
Hungarian body, the Future of Europe Association , who each received 5,000
euros.
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) prize for organised civil
society aims to reward and encourage intellectual work or concrete actions on an
annual changing theme. For the inaugural 2006 prize this involved work or
actions by civil society organisations that could help raise European citizens'
awareness of the shared roots, values and goals of all the peoples united under
the banner of European integration.
The panel of judges felt unanimously that the three winners, through their
initiatives, had made a significant contribution towards developing and
strengthening the European identity as an essential cultural element in European
integration.
The winners will be officially presented with their prizes on 13 September
2006, during the EESC plenary session.
