LIFE programme publishes overview of urban environmental projects 27-10-2006 The European LIFE Programme published “LIFE in the City”, the latest edition
in the LIFE-Focus series. The publication looks specifically at the urban
environment. It presents 24 recent projects co-financed by the EC’s Financial
Instrument for the Environment’s (LIFE).
The presented projects demonstrate innovative approaches that are technically
viable, cost-effective and widely applicable. They cover the following issues:
The experiences, lessons learnt and results presented in the publication are
of interest to the many local actors across Europe who work daily to improve the
environmental performance of their cities and the quality of life of their
citizens.
Launched in 1992, LIFE is one of the spearheads of Community environment
policy. LIFE cofinances environmental initiatives in the European Union and
certain third countries. LIFE has supported over 160 initiatives on the urban
environment since 1992.
