Award and prize money for innovative housing projects
03-11-2006

The Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF) is currently seeking entries for the World Habitat Awards 2007 competition. Projects that provide practical and innovative solutions to current housing needs and problems are eligible to enter the contest. One project from the global north and one project from the global south will be awarded the UN Habitat Award and £10,000 in prize money.
The World Habitat Awards were initiated in 1985. They seek to identify solutions to current housing issues faced by countries of the Global South as well as the North.
All solutions should be:
  • practical;
  • innovative;
  • easily transferable;
  • sustainable.
The competition is open to all individuals and organisations, including central and local governments, NGOs, community-based groups, research organisations and the private sector. Deadline for submitting projects is 1 June 2007.
Each year a panel of international judges assesses the projects entered for the competition and selects two winners – one from the global North and one from the South. The winners are announced at the annual United Nations global celebration of World Habitat Day, which next year is due to take place on Monday 1st October.
