Italian and Swiss regions join forces to reduce air pollution 12-02-2007 Five Northern-Italian regions and one Swiss canton bordering Northern Italy
have signed a common anti-air pollution strategy. The pact formalises the
cooperation between Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Trentino, Bolzano (Italy) and
Tessin (Switzerland) to improve the air quality on their territories.

Northern-Italian regions agreed to consult each other on effective ways to
reduce air pollution, following EU directives in this field. Mercedes Bresso,
president of the region of Piedmont, comments that “it took a long time to

The pact includes the following measures:
The implementation of the pact will be kicked-off by a car-free day in the
Italian regions on 25 February.
