Digital Cities Programme - ES
Introduction
The programme aims to promote and to implant the Information Society in a local environment, by means of broadband telecommunication networks.
Description
The consideration of “digital city” implies a wide implantation of the Information Society in a local environment. Thus, the citizens may have access to diverse sources of information around the world, means of interactive communication and applications that allow several operations through the Internet, such as buying, selling, paying, ordering bank transfers, etc. It may also enable a closer interaction between people, companies, institutions, etc.
The final users are the citizens in their own homes, workplaces and public services, as well as companies and institutions. The agents that may promote the introduction of the Information Society are both the public administration and the civil society. The importance of the civil society should not be overlooked, and their initiatives should be supported by public administrations.
EU involvement
Cofinanced by the European Fund for Regional Development.
