Digiport - Local ICT service - Lille, France
Introduction
DigiPort is a network of ICT experts that offers it servcices to businesses, organizations and local authorities in the City of Lille.
Problem
How to integrate ICT into local businesses, organizations and government, with the objective of providing an economic and social impulse?
Description
The Lille conurbation is the prime mover behind Digiport. The City authorities work together with the chamber of commerce and the University of Lille. The DigiPort team comprises a network of experts in the field of ICT and this team is ready to help businesses and organizations wanting to use ICT more effectively.
Approach
DigiPort has a two-pronged objective:
  • to support the economic development of the Lille region and make this region internationally visible and competitive;
  • to integrate and evaluate policy, bringing about better alignment between industry and research.
The network of experts helps businesses and organizations with the following:
  • setting up an internet strategy and an e-business plan;
  • finding funds and investors;
  • structuring and implementing the e-business plan.
Results
The DigiPort website includes news, events, vacancies and a 'digidesk'. Businesses, organizations and local authorities can ask questions at this 'digidesk'.
Currently, DigiPort is not only virtual, but physical as well. A number of business parks have been set up in the region that comply with all ICT requirements for business facilities.
