EUROCULT21 Integrated Report
Introduction
The aims of the Eurocult 21 project were to promote discussion on the role of culture in urban governance, to exchange best practices, to identify research and funding needs, to develop innovative cultural strategies and define policy recommendations.
Description
EUROCULT21 – Urban Cultural Profile Exchange Project in the 21st Centu¬ry – was a thematic network financed by the EC-DG RESEARCH under the City of tomorrow & cultural heritage. It brought together representatives of 19 city authorities, 6 academic and research institutions from 12 different European countries and 2 Europe-wide networks (EUROCITIES and ENCATC) to examine the state of play of cultural policy within European cities and make recommen¬dations for the future.
Background information
The project has been developed in response to a 5th Framework Programme Call, under the Key Action 4 City of Tomorrow and Cultural Heritage.
Conclusions
The EUROCULT21 project drew policy and research recommendations which are collected in chapter 12 of the Integrated Report. There are policy recommendations relating to:
  • Governance;
  • Artistic Production and Performance;
  • Enlightenment/Arts and Education;
  • Community Arts and Empowerment;
  • Economic Development;
  • and Indicators.
Research recommendations are divided into:
  • general recommendations;
  • Enlightenment;
  • Empowerment;
  • Economic Impact;
  • Entertainment;
  • and Experience.
