Pan-Professional CPD for Sustainable Communities
Introduction
This research paper sets out to examine/explore how pan-professional development (CPD) can be achieved in the context of the sustainable communities agenda.
Description
This research underlines the importance of developing the generic skills, behaviours and knowledge as identified in the Egan Skills Review. CPD is seen as an essential tool in developing these skills which run alongside the core specialist skills found among sustainable communities professionals.
Pan-professional CPD enables the development of strong partnerships where key players share an understanding of these essential generic skills. The paper outlines 17 recommendations for the further development of pan-professional CPD.
Background information
The vision of the research is to develop an enabling framework for encouraging pan-professional CPD/Lifelong Learning through a single connected profession-neutral gateway and other means. It is influenced by the findings of the Egan Skills Review which highlights the importance of generic skills for sustainable communities.
Methodology
The scope of this project was primarily focused on interviewing a sample of players within the sustainable communities/regeneration agenda, mainly within the North West.
The interview was to gain a snapshot of issues which could influence the evolution of an approach to pan-professional CPD rather than look at the existing professional development delivery structures and methods.
Conclusions
An ambitious, imaginative, interlinked cooperative effort is required by individuals, employers, institutes, education institutions and other national and regional agencies to enable best use of shared expertise and resources for the development of effective CPD for both technical and generic skills, as much as possible pan-professionally.
