The Mentoring Knowledge Chain: encouraging mentoring in vocational education
Introduction
The objective of the Mentoring Knowledge Chain is to further encourage, develop and professionalise mentoring in vocational education. One way in which it achieves this is through knowledge exchange on the website  mentoringinonderwijs.nl. The aim of this website is to assemble and share initiatives, knowledge and experience surrounding the theme 'mentoring'.
Description
Lava Legato Foundation has been running the Mentoring Knowledge Chain with the support of the province of Zuid Holland since 2004. The Mentoring Knowledge Chain consists of nine schools from the vocational education sector in Zuid Holland. The Knowledge Chain assembles and shares knowledge and experience in the field of mentoring. Another major task is the creation of preconditions to make it possible to include mentoring structurally in the usual activities of the educational institutions.
Conclusions
One of the results achieved by the Mentoring Knowledge Chain is a website where the participating educational institutions and other experts are able to present their experiences and methodology to the vocational education sector. Mentoringinonderwijs.nl is the website in the field of mentoring in vocational education. Information on the website includes:
  • the tutoring, student mentoring and classic mentoring theory
  • the experiences of members of the chain regarding mentoring
  • a literature review
  • links
The Mentoring Knowledge Chain is making a case for transforming the website this year into a virtual 'knowledge centre' for mentoring, in which other regions will also be able to participate.
