OECD LEED Trento Centre for Local Development
Introduction
In order to promote local development and advance the social economy, innovative ideas are needed. The OECD LEED Trento Centre for Local Development in Trento, Italy, supports local governments and helps them build local development capacity. The dissemination of best practices, the improvement of the quality of public policy and the strengthening of the relationship between policy makers are some of the main objectives of the centre. Through different events, such as conferences and training courses, local actors are trained to create and improve local development capacity.
Problem
How to build local development capacity in OECD member and non-member countries in Central, East and South Eastern Europe?
Description
The Trento Centre for Local Development is part of the OECD LEED programme, which aims at identifying and formulating innovative ideas for local development and the social economy.
The mission of the Trento Centre is to build local development capacity in OECD member and non-member countries in Central, East and South Eastern Europe. The Centre builds on the LEED Programme’s longstanding commitment to providing assistance in the design, implementation and assessment of local development strategies and its expertise on local governance, entrepreneurship and social inclusion.
The main objectives of the Centre are:
  • to improve the dissemination capacity of best practices in the design and implementation of local development strategies and facilitate the transfer of expertise and exchange of experience between OECD member and non-member countries;
  • to improve the quality of public policy in economic, labour market and social areas, implemented at the local level, through continuous monitoring and assessment of current policies and practices and identification of innovations in key local development drivers and tools;
  • to strengthen the relationship between policy makers, local development practitioners and the scientific community;
    to reinforce participative and representative democracy at sub-national level by initiating and supporting a dialogue between national and sub-national legislatures on local development issues.
The OECD LEED Trento Centre is active in the following four fields:
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Local Governance
  • Social Inclusion
  • Evaluation
