Cyprus: Single Programming Document for Objective 2 2004-2006 and Programme Complement

Introduction

The Single Programming Document (SPD) for Objective 2 and the Programme Complement for Cyprus set out the strategy, priorities, objectives and expected impact of Structural Fund activities and outline how the programmes will be managed, monitored and evaluated on the ground.

Description

The overall aim of the Objective 2 areas strategy is the economic and social regeneration of urban and rural areas, which face serious structural problems, in order to contribute to the stabilisation of the depopulation trend and to achieve greater social and economic cohesion. In order to achieve the above aim, the designed strategy has defined two global objectives: a) Sustainability of the local population in the rural areas through a more diversified economic base and improvement of the socio-economic conditions. b) Promotion of the socio-economic regeneration of the urban area, which will be implemented through three Priorities, namely the Sustainable Rural Development, the Regeneration of Urban Areas and the provision of Technical Assistance. The Programme Complement "complements" the SPD by providing further details on how, where and for what purpose the Funds will be spent.
