Moving forward: the Northern Way – first growth strategy report
Introduction
Sets out a growth strategy for the three northern regional development agencies to boost prosperity and close the productivity gap with the rest of the country.
Description
Presents a growth strategy for the three northern regional development agencies (One NorthEast, Yorkshire Forward and the Northwest Development Agency) to boost prosperity and close the productivity gap with the rest of the country. Describes the challenges facing the north in its attempts to accelerate growth. Identifies the region's eight city-regions, centred on Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Central Lancashire, Hull and the Humber Ports, the Tees Valley, and Tyne and Wear, as being key to accelerating growth. Presents the strategy under ten policy priorities: bring more people into employment; strengthen the north's knowledge base and drive innovation; build a more entrepreneurial north; capture a larger share of global trade by supporting the expansion of key clusters of companies; meet employer skills needs; prepare a northern airports priorities plan and improve surface access to key northern airports; improve access to the north's sea ports; create premier public transport systems in each city region and stronger linkages between city regions; create truly sustainable communities; and market the north to the world.
Location: The north of England with a focus on the eight city regions of Liverpool, central Lancashire, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Hull and Humber ports, Tees Valley and Tyne & Wear
