Challenging career orientation project for young immigrant women
Introduction
'Vergezicht' (meaning: Vista) is a project for young immigrant women and their parents. In the project, immigrant students from three comprehensive schools are offered a challenging career orientation.
Problem
How can immigrant girls be encouraged to participate in the job market?
Description
The 'Vergezicht' project offers immigrant girls a challenging career orientation. They will learn to identify their talents and desires in terms of education and work. They then present these insights to their family and friends. Parents are counseled with regard to supporting and encouraging their daughters in their process of making choices. In this way, the emancipation and integration process of both the parents and their children is promoted.
Approach
This career project involves making of a portfolio, conducting mock interviews and debates, developing competencies, making presentations on a website and to one’s parents, going on an introduction tour to other schools and attending a final conference. During all the different stages of the process, the parents and brothers of the girls are actively involved by means of periodical meetings.
Results
Immigrant female students from three comprehensive schools are monitored via a career orientation project.
Financing
Vergezicht is funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Directorate Coordination of Emancipation Matters
