The second-chance school in Marseille
Introduction
Training young people in order to guide them towards work.
Problem
Placing the young person at the centre of a scheme for individual training, knowledge consolidation and a vocational project.
Description
In Marseille, the second-chance school offers training to young people in a situation of academic failure, combining qualifications, educational input and mediation.
Approach
Each young person receives an initial assessment, after which the educational team prepares a training plan and a vocational project.  A review is carried out every week, so as to assess progress and readjust the objectives and means if appropriate. The course comprises 3 different stages over 42 weeks, with 12 weeks’ work experience.
Results
1,100 trainees followed the course offered by the school, with an average of 300 trainees a year. 60% of trainees left with positive results and 50% with an employment contract.
Beneficiaries
Youngsters between 18 and 25 seeking an occupational opportunity or qualifications.
Resources used
2004 Budget: 671,734 €; building of 10,000 m².
