Skills: getting on in business, getting on at work

Introduction

Sets out the Government's plans for reforming the national standing of the skills of adults already in, or seeking to enter, the labour market.

Description

This policy paper presents an overview of the Skills Strategy structured around core strands of:

working in partnership with employers;
giving employers a stronger voice in shaping the supply of training;
supporting individuals in achieving their ambitions;
helping adults gain functional skills of literacy, language and numeracy;
developing wider employability skills;
tackling obstacles to gaining fair access to training and jobs;
encouraging the role that trade unions play; and
building on the existing strengths of university, colleges and training providers.

It focuses on the three broad areas of meeting employer needs, meeting learner needs, and reforming training supply. It also includes more technical chapters detailing how the reforms will be implemented with an action plan for delivery. Sets out the latest data and evidence on trends in skills. This paper consists of three parts.
