Ars Baltica
Introduction
The intention of the Ars Baltica is to enhance cultural identity in the Baltic Sea Region and also to realize projects of European significance.
Description
Ars Baltica is a forum for multilateral cultural cooperation with an emphasis on common projects within the Baltic Sea Region. It gives priority to art, culture and cultural history. The key factor is to achieve quality and a very special level of activities. Its goal is to implement common projects, which in terms of structure and concept are more than the traditional form of bilateral cultural exchange and also to help these projects to become as existing networks of individuals and organisations.
The cooperation between the members is carried out by meetings, exchange of information and joint projects. This network implies the development into a communication center and a structured and well-organized "market-place" of new ideas.
Participants
Ars Baltica has the form of a committee with two representatives from each member state (=member). The members are Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation and Sweden.
Network lead
CHAIRMANSHIP
The chairman of Ars Baltica is elected among the committee members. The mandate of the chairman is one year. The chairmanship has to rotate after a two years´ interval. The chairmanship and the secretariat are not necessarily linked to the same member state.
SECRETARIAT
Ars Baltica has a secretariat hosted by an existing structure within one of the member states during a period of minimum three years, that can be prolonged if the committee agrees on it.
Objectives
The principal criteria of Ars Baltica projects are:
  • to keep the spectrum of cultural cooperation as wide as possible
  • to pay attention to the current artistic processes in the region
  • to encourage artists who are considered as a driving force for the future
  • to develop and promote projects of high quality, that put in focus the identity and the cultural diversity of the Baltic Sea region
  • to stimulate exchange of artists and networking activities within small and medium size projects
  • to prioritize projects with a broad participation from the region and which are open also to other European partners.
