Effect of Maintenance Measures on Service Life of Concrete Facades

Introduction

The scope of this project is to systematically analyse all essential reasons of damage, such as material technical, structural and building physical.

Proposition

Deterioration of concrete facades is a common phenomenon for Finnish buildings made in 1960's and 1970's.

Description

Database, deterioration processes, potential repair methods, service life calculation methods and rehabilitation measures are presented.

The project had co-operation with one EU-project and this publication was published "Huovinen, S., Hakkarainen, H., Bergman, J.: Deteriovation defects and repair methods of facades, final report. Vol. 1. Development of a new methodology to analyze the durability of facade repair and retrofitting systems. Contact nr. BRPR-96-0229"

Effect of Maintenance Measures on Service Life of Concrete Facades project is also part on The Innovative City® Program.

Conclusions

A longer service life will require less maintenance and is leading to a lower consumption of energy and material resources.
