GIS support in restoration of houses flood affected Bereg regions
Introduction
Following a serious flood has destroyed several houses an effective and fast planning methodology has been needed for the restoration homes and building new houses. An integrated GIS method has been used to appoint those areas within a settlement which are less endangered by flood in the future.
Problem
Fast and accurate survey of potential flood affected areas and appointment such plots which are more suitable for new houses due to less affected by extreme flood level.
Description
After the flood on Tisza river in March 2001 VÁTI was appointed to make a general survey on construction environment that supports re-building new homes. Task has covered the survey of damages and the co-ordination of civil engineering. The time has been tight so fast and effected work being needed. A full GIS technology has been applied. First the damaged properties have been recorded on digital maps. Than a digital terrain model is generated and the flood level being indicated, too. As a coverage the map of settlement has been overlaid. The subsurface water level has been detected and put on the DTM coverage. Finally multi parametered maps have been printed and the planner could work on them easily.
