Equation - Build sustainably with innovative design tools
Introduction
"Equation" is a demonstration and dissemination project for stimulating architects and local governments to build sustainably with help of innovative design tools. It is an EC LIFE project aimed at developing an online toolbox with summaries of sustainable building tools that can be used in the existing sustainable building policy.
Problem
The project sought to demonstrate how more effective sustainable building policies can be formulated, based on performance requirements instead of checklists. Municipalities often use lists of measures for negotiations with market parties about sustainable building policy. It is, however, difficult to establish unambiguous performance levels using these lists. The website offers a summary of building tools offered by existing sustainable building policy.
Description
The website offers a summary of the tools for use by local Authority tools to promote and deliver sustainable construction methods and techniques for buildings in urban areas.
Beneficiaries
Local authorities, construction companies using sustainable approaches
EU involvement
This is an EC supported project under the LIFE programme.
Sustainable construction is relevant to EC laws on the energy performance of buildings (EC Directive 2002/91/EC).
