Introduction
Presents the Government’s White Paper on delivering an urban renaissance.
Description
Describes the issues facing England's town and cities: the demand for homes; the exodus from towns and cities; poor quality of life; economic performance; and the environmental impact of urban living. Identifies positive signs and sets out the government's vision of urban living. Discusses how to achieve the vision and achieve a high quality of life and opportunity for all. Looks at actions relating to: resources; delivering change in the local area; effective and accountable local government; Local Strategic Partnerships; working together at all levels; and achieving an inclusive society. Discusses how to create 'places for people'. Sets out policies for creating and sharing prosperity: learning from success; coordinated action; promoting a culture of enterprise and investment; providing employment opportunities; and providing a better transport system. Sets out policies for improving public services. Discusses how the government intends to make it happen. Sets out the government's response to the Urban Task Force recommendations.
