Camera surveillance in Hungary
Introduction
The legal background of the camera surveillance is poor in Hungary. The research tries to give hints about the possible ways which lead to an useful legislation concerning this field.
Description
The basic idea behind the camera surveillance is to control who can or who can’t enter a certain place. In Hungary – compared to Western-Europe – there is smaller amount of cameras in public places, so the legislators could decide on the legal ways to use those facilities. The research describes all issues concerning the camera surveillance from the technical till the legal background. One could read about the possible uses and mis-uses of the pictures taken by cameras and the current practice of the police.
EU involvement
The research shows the practice of the camera surveillance in the UK and the practice of Home Office.
Conclusions
There are two ways: all information should be kept secret and in this case those who have more power could win or all information should go public and in this second case the transparency could win more space in Hungarian society.
