Crime Reduction Basics – Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in the community

Introduction

'Crime Reduction Basics' is a training session to introduce individuals and community groups to the basic principles of crime reduction and to encourage them to get involved with reducing crime. Within the pack there is information on: how to use the session notes and a full training brief.

Problem

The purpose of the session is to provide community groups with basic information so that they can start to become involved in reducing crime.

Description

The 'crime reduction basics' training session has been designed for use in the community with groups and individuals such as:

tenants' associations,
residents groups
and neighbourhood watch schemes.

The objectives of the session are:

define crime and disorder reduction
identify who is involved in their local crime and disorder reduction partnerships and what services they can be expected to offer
describe a simple problem solving process they can use to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
describe some of the methods used in crime reduction
identify what they can contribute to crime reduction locally.

Approach

The training brief is divided into sections and each one contains all the information needed to deliver it. Each section contains:

Information to give to the group.
Questions and activities.
Notes on how to source local data.
Handouts and slides.

Results

Results of the training should be that the participants have an understanding of the basic principles around crime disorder and prevention to become more involved in crime reduction in their local communities.

Beneficiaries

Groups who undertake the training which is aimed at:

tenants'' associations,
resident groups,
neighbourhood watch schemes,
youth groups,
open public meetings,
sports clubs and social clubs.
