Police and migrants in dialogue in Frankfurt am Main
Introduction
The 'Police and migrants in dialogue' project in Frankfurt am Main aims at a better understanding between immigrants and the police. The latter are supported through learning about diverse migrant groups; foreign participants learn about structures and tasks of the German police, and are enabled to communicate in conflict situation relevant to their community.
Description
'Police and migrants in dialogue' addresses problems with policing neighbourhoods with a high percentage of migrants. It arose from a cooperation between the AmkA, the police headquarters of Frankfurt and the Wiesbaden Police academy. Its goal is to create a network of trust and knowledge among police officers and community members as an asset for conflict management.
Approach
‘Police and migrants in dialogue’ conducts seminars in which police officers and engaged members from migrant communities are participating. The seminars are held by experienced AmkA staff members and police trainers. Due to the success in the city of Frankfurt, such seminars became part of the regular training at the Hessian police academy.
Target group
Police officers and migrant communities. The project is part of the regular training for Hessian police officers and involves NGOs and migrant organisations in Frankfurt.
Results
Due to the success of 'Police and migrants in dialogue' within the city of Frankfurt, the seminars became part of the regular training of police officers at the Hessian police academy.
