ihminen@turku - Citizen's Information Society Programme 2006
Introduction
Information society is being developed locally with ideas of free access, equality and competitiveness.
Description
The information society programme in Turku focuses on the following four areas:
  • Access to data networks
  • Information society infrastructure
  • Development needs related to public e-services
  • eDemocracy, i.e. electronic and other new means for civic participation and influence
The programme aims at finding ways of making Turku, by the year 2006, a city known for practical and useful e-services that support the daily lives (i.e. in health care, learning/schools, libraries and cultural services) of the people of Turku and empower them and provide them with opportunities to participate. To facilitate this, an operational environment will be developed which will provide all citizens with an access to technical solutions and skills.
The programme lists a total of 30 recommendations for concrete measures to promote, step by step, the development of the information society in Turku. Turku will promote and be prepared to take full advantage of the development of multiplatform, mobile and digital technology solutions. To facilitate full use of new services there will be widespread availability of fast and secure Internet connections both in households and in public places - like libraries and schools. Special attention will be paid to promoting skills needed in the information society and work life, especially amongst the adults and senior citizens. There will also be various means of technical support addressed to the citizens.
