The national framework for active learning for active citizenship – UK
Introduction
The ‘Take Part’ learning framework is a manual for practitioners and providers of learning programmes in citizenship skills for adults.
Description
The document looks at what active citizenship is about and what it involves. It outlines some of the practical considerations and forward planning involved in organising and delivering active citizenship programmes. The Take Part activities being undertaken are summarised with details of where to find out more information about them. An indication is given of the range of approaches undertaken by the Take Part hubs during the two-year Take Part action research project. An outline is given of the educational theory and practice underpinning the Take Part approach.
Background information
Take Part was established in 2004 (as the Active Learning for Active Citizenship programme) by the Home Office’s Civil Renewal Unit, with the aim of helping adults become better, more informed, and active citizens. When surveyed, the majority of people still felt cut off from decisions which affect them; this programme aims to reverse this trend.
Methodology
The report is a manual and good practice guide to teaching citizenship in an academic or community context, using lessons learned from the Take Park network’s experience.
