Integrating equality and gender in local development - Gijón, ES
Introduction
The goal of the project is to incorporate the gender dimension in all public policies of the Gijón City Council.
Problem
The actions to promote equality of opportunities focused on offering specific services for women: legal consulting, promotion of associationism, re-accommodation of victims of domestic violence... The other areas of the city council did not assume as their function the development of actions in favour of equality, ignored the socioeconomic reality of women in the Municipality, the statistics were not broken down by genders, and the gender and transversality handling was an unknown dimension.
Description
The priorities of this project are:
  • Guaranteeing the participation of women in the city council training and employment plans.
  • Supporting the equality of opportunities by promoting the application of European Guidelines for Employment.
  • Informing, training and raising awareness to adopt the integrated gender approach in the actions to promote economy and employment.
Results
123 indicators are being used to measure the evolution of the project. Some of the results are:
  • 60% of the people involved in employment plans are women.
  • 51% of the hiring subsidies are for women.
  • 48% of the women included in training and employment plans belong to monoparental families.
  • The Area for Equity has organized 71 training actions with 2,758 participants, of which 66.5% were women and 33.5% men.
  • 280 working meetings have been held with the participation of technical staff and social agents.
  • 28,066 units of informative material have been distributed.
  • Measures to promote work-life balance have been developed within the city council and for the citizens.
