Social and employment insertion for people in a situation of exclusion - Pamplona, ES
Introduction
The goal of the project is to fight against the causes of social exclusion in the city of Pamplona (Spain).
Problem
Gaztelan started its activity in the 80s, a particularly difficult period for the working-class areas of Pamplona, affected by the economic crisis with a 25% unemployment rate. There few job opportunities for young people and the options for training, business advice, intermediation or careers guidance were scarce. Public resources were insufficient to find solutions and social or private initiatives related to unemployment were virtually non-existent.
Description
Since its beginnings, the Gaztelan Foundation has pursued two objectives: to relieve the difficulties that suffer marginalized people, and to fight the actual causes that generate social exclusion.
Thus, the two main lines of activity of the institution are to promote employment and labour insertion (i.e. finding or providing employment for people in need), and to criticise and suggest alternatives to the sources of social exclusion.
The achievements prove that it is possible to combine economic feasibility with social development, through the setting-up of companies and employment, labour insertion, equal opportunities and sustainable economic development.
