Brussels embraces its expats by providing special masterclasses
Introduction
Every year, 1500 expats come to Brussels to work for European institutions or international companies. At the moment, there are about 150.000 expats living in the city, who strongly define its outlook and atmosphere. They therefore play an important role in the development of Brussels. From November onwards, newly arrived expats will be able to attend special masterclasses to get to know the city. The Brussels government is providing a 60.000 Euro subsidy to set up this programme, run by the two universities and the Brussels-Europe Liaison Office. Increased knowledge about their city should make expats more committed to the development of Brussels.
Description
During the masterclasses, expats will be able to participate in a programme consisting of lectures, cultural visits, discussions and excursions. The lectures include topics such as the history of Brussels, its multicultural profile and its position in the world. The excursions will guide expats to both the central areas of Brussels and its periphery. The masterclasses will be given in both English and French.
Expats play an important role in the urban development of Brussels, a city which has expressed the ambition to become the 'capital of Europe'. In order to make the city's 'International Development Plan' work, it is considered to be important for expats to be well-informed about their city.
