Inhabitants' stories about their neighbourhood give a new dimension to the area. Armed with a hand computer, headphones and a GPS connection, visitors to the Afrikaanderwijk in Rotterdam can take an audio tour whereby inhabitants' stories, pictures and sounds lead them through the neighbourhood. Social psychologist de Ruijter created the organisation 'De Tapes'. The idea behind the creative tour of the neighbourhood is that a mutual lack of understanding and cultural insight only encourages segregation. During the tour, visitors get to see the neighbourhood through the eyes of its many different inhabitants. De Ruijter hopes that this will lead to a better understanding and knowledge of each other's cultural and religious backgrounds.
