Asturias Telecentres Network, ES
Introduction
Asturias has created a network of telecentres in its territory to promote the access to Knowledge Society.
Problem
Asturias is developing diverse activities to enable access to the Knowledge Society. 85 telecentres are part of the Public Access to the Internet Service in all the municipalities of the region.
Description
The main objective of Asturias Telecentres Network is to help the citizens to participate in the digital society, giving them access to the Internet and the formation required to take advantage of information technologies. The model of telecentres is basically focused on people, adopting a proactive attitude to get new users, particularly in groups that are less prone to use technology.
The telecentres try to integrate themselves in the local and territorial dynamics, helping social groups of the territory not only to access the Internet but to participate in social networks. The model of management of these telecentres is well defined, and includes co-financing by the regional government and the local city councils.
Results
The telecentres are not the result of a preconceived model; on the contrary, a difference can be established between urban and rural telecentres. For example, the latter must assume the function of giving support to local SMEs in fields such as orientation, training... The functional design of each telecentre is related to the activities that they organize (for children, local groups, etc.).
