Introduction

This report gives an overview of Hungarian policy measures to prevent homelessness in Hungary .

Description

The research provides an answer to the following questions:

What do Hungarian governments – local, regional or national – understand in terms of prevention of homelessness?
What are the existing strategies, policies and legislation?
What role do NGOs play in prevention?

The research reports ends with an overview of good practice projects in the field of homelessness prevention.

Conclusions

Very few measures aiming at the prevention of homelessness have been taken in the last decade in Hungary.
As a result, harmonized prevention strategies which take into account the main causes of homelessness or the particular stages of pathways into homelessness are non-existent.
Generally speaking there are very limited direct strategies aiming at preventing homelessness. The most direct impact has the debt management service.
There aren’t exact figures in Hungary on how many people become homeless in a ear.
Networking between NGOs is much stronger than between NGOs and institutions. Informal meetings and gatherings are very important in this process.
