Introduction
This report looks at the impact of the Social Exclusion Unit in the seven years since it was established and identifies policy priorities for the future.
Description
This report:
  • reviews the work of the Social Exclusion Unit and identifies priorities for future action.
  • explains what social exclusion means, its causes and consequences and looks at what the UK government has done so far to tackle it;
  • considers how progress can be sustained and the challenges that remain;
  • evaluates the scale of the remaining problem and the areas where more progress needs to be made; and
  • discusses the problem of improving life chances and helping those in society who are most disadvantaged;
  • outlines how the UK government intends to take its social exclusion work forward, bearing in mind the trends that might impact on social exclusion in the future.
