Action Housing Association: Floating Support Scheme: Derby
Introduction
Case Study Information – Floating Support Scheme, Derby
Problem
Offenders or those at risk of offending are among the most likely people to become homeless. Targeted and skilled support is important in helping people in these groups maintain an independent tenancy on their own.
Description
Action Housing Association assists offenders and those at risk to establish themselves in the community by supporting them in their own tenancy.
Approach
A detailed assessment is made for each referral, plus a meeting between Action staff, the person being referred and referral agency.
A risk assessment looks at past history, current situation, potential for causing harm to themselves, family, friends or Action staff.
Action plans a worst case scenario before deciding to help. If a support package can be offered and the tenancy is likely to promote independence then Action will offer their support..
A key worker is assigned, a property organised and a programme of support for the client is arranged. Key workers are also supported, with additional mentoring as appropriate.
Results
Action Housing Association has been set tough quantitative targets of 90% maintained tenancies which it has succeeded in meeting; The Association calculates that it saves other partners £3 for every £1 it spends.
