Municipal Integration Office as 'One-Stop-Agency’ - Arnsberg, Germany
Introduction
The city established the Office of Immigration and Integration. To this one-stop-agency, migrants can turn with all kinds of questions and problems concerning the municipality. The employees will attend to the case or provide information on where the person has to turn to.
Description
The basic assumption behind this service: Due to their lack of knowledge concerning language and municipal structures (newly arrived) migrants can have a hard time both identifying the right contact person at the municipality and gaining access to municipal services. The goal of the ‘one-stop-agency’ is facilitating the contact between migrants and the municipality and improving migrants’ access to services.
Approach
Within the administration, the integration commissioner and his Office of Immigration and Integration, allocated to the department of general and social services, are in charge of all migrant and integration-related affairs and organise migrant-specific services. Migrants can turn to the 26 employees of this low-threshold office with all kinds of questions and problems concerning the municipality.
Results
The ‘one-stop-agency’ eases migrants’ contact with municipality and facilitates (and hence improves) migrants’ access to municipal services. Concrete figures are not available.
