A guide on travel plans for developers
Introduction
Guidance for organisations involved in new and existing developments on the implications of travel plans and the benefits of making sustainable travel part of future development proposals.
Description
The guidance explains what a travel plan is and sets out the role of developers and related professions in implementing travel plans. It highlights the importance of travel plans in the development control process in relation to development location, density and mix of land uses, and the design and layout of the development. Advice is provided on the factors to be considered by developers when engaging with the planning process and issues related to travel plans for new developments. The roles of planning, design and engineering professionals in the development process and the importance of working in partnerships are discussed. An example of a travel plan being part of a Section 106 Planning Agreement at Greenway, a National Trust garden in Devon, is included.
