Introduction

The plan intends to create a new culture of Road Safety in the Basque Country.

Description

Traffic accidents are the second cause of premature mortality in the Basque Country. Therefore, there is an evident need to improve the human behaviour, raising the awareness of the citizens on this issue and enabling the creation of a new culture of Road Safety. The Strategic Plan for Road Safety identifies the priorities and strategic objectives to reduce the accident rate noticeably.

The specific objectives of the plan are:

Increase the use of security devices.
Reduce the number of stretches which generate accidents.
Reduce the amount of runovers.
Reduce the number of young people dead or injured in car accidents.
Reduce the number of accidents with motorcycles and mopeds involved.
Renew the vehicle pool.
