Ecological driving courses - Alcalá de Henares, ES
Introduction
Alcalá de Henares city council organises free courses on ecological driving.
Problem
The driving behaviour of most citizens is not environmentally friendly.
Description
Ecological driving is a new way of using the car that, by adopting specific behaviours while driving, reduces the fuel consumption and the emission of contaminant gases to the atmosphere. Madrid Regional Government, in collaboration with other institutions, promotes the organization of free courses in cities such as Alcalá de Henares, to teach citizens how to drive in an ecological way.
Approach
The ecological driving courses intend to teach drivers some techniques which:
  • Reduce the emission of contaminant gases up to 78%
  • Save fuel while driving (up to 20%)
  • Improve road safety.
  • Reduce the cost of maintenance of the vehicle.
  • Reduce the stress and make driving more comfortable.
Results
Three-week courses have been organised in the months of December 2005 and January-February 2006. The degree of participation and acceptance of the initiative has been satisfactory.
