Website for car sharing - Mataró, ES
Introduction
The Mataró City Council promotes car sharing through a specific web service.
Problem
The use of individual vehicles has negative consequences on both traffic conditions and environmental sustainability. By promoting car sharing, Mataró City Council tries to address both issues.
Description
The Mataró City Council provides in its website a service that helps the user to find other people interested in sharing their cars for common trips (to work, the university, leisure…). Users must register in the website and insert their contact data, intended trip and vehicle. If there is a user interested in sharing a similar trip, the website puts both users in contact by e-mail.
Approach
The main objectives of the plan are:
  • Promote a more sustainable model of mobility.
  • Enable a more rational use of private transport and the public space.
  • Reduce the use of fuel and improve the air quality.
Results
In 2005 the website had 8.311 visitors, and 19,7% of the users got to share their trips.
