Cathedral cities network
Introduction
The network was established with the idea of working jointly in the promotion and defence of the urban, historic and cultural heritage of the towns which comprise it, as well as the exchange of ideas to establish a joint policy for spreading the image of network cities.
Description
The Network of Cathedral Cities, which will have its permanent head office in Plasencia, was established as a not for profit body with full legal personality on 8 February 2006 in an act presided over by the Housing Minister, and will help to consolidate relationships between municipalities of different autonomous communities based on a share cultural and architectural legacy as well as the maintenance of a heritage which is a catalyst in the development of cities, for the development of tourism and the economy in general.
Participants
The founder members of the network are the cities of Ávila, Badajoz, Baeza, Burgos, Córdoba, Coria, Cuenca, El Burgo de Osma, León, Plasencia, Salamanca, Sevilla and Zaragoza.
Network lead
The Chair of the Network of Cathedral Cities is held for the first year by the Mayoress of Plasencia, Ms. Elia María Blanco.
Objectives
The aims of the network are as follows:
a) Act jointly in the promotion and defence of urban, architectural, environmental, historic and cultural heritage of the towns which comprise it, in particular its cathedral heritage, carrying out joint projects and proposals to be presented to and processed by the Spanish government and global institutions.
b) Establish policies for the exchange of experiences and results in relation to questions which have arisen and been resolved in each of the member towns, thus contributing to their international renown and the knowledge and mutual respect of peoples, cultures and traditions and European construction.
c) Plan and develop a tourist development and promotion and publicity policy corresponding to the interests of the member towns of the association.
d) Plan a tourist and cultural policy in line with objectives.
