The face of housing is set to change over the next decade. Measures are being brought in now, both locally and nationally, that will have a significant role to play in the shaping of our homes, neighbourhoods and day-to-day lives in the future. Using a series of future-focused scenarios this report presents a picture of how we feel the housing sector will have changed and evolved as a result of the decisions made now.
There are five “themes” running through the case studies that in our opinion will affect housing in the future. These themes are at the top of the policy agenda today and the emphasis being put upon them now means that their consequences will be felt in 2020 and beyond. They include:

There is much to be proud of in the North in terms of progress in tackling some deep seated issues but we should not be complacent. While the North has moved forward in many areas there are constantly new challenges emerging that we must respond to. The North is well placed to meet these challenges and these case studies offer our ideas on how this might be accomplished in the next decade. We should not lose sight of how much we have achieved and what we can and will achieve in the future.
